Remember the bike rack I made out of vintage bikes? Well, apparently someone got really excited about one of the pieces I put together and decided to break it off and take it home. Honestly, if I was a complete asshole, and was in to ripping off public art, I’m pretty sure I would have stolen this part; it was awesome. Did someone need the $30 flip-flop hub that badly? Or is it now adorning someones living room wall as a bicycle-esque animal pelt?
The bike on the right side of picture below has been stolen.
I guess the semi-redemptive quality of this situation is that whoever was maliciously breaking this bike apart to detach it from the blue pole was not able to break the welds that I made. Considering I’ve only been welding for a couple of months, I’m happy I am making some quality welds. See picture below. As you can see they weren’t able to break the bike off at the welds, they actually had to bend/break off the frame at the chainstays. Unbelievable!
So, I recently found a pink Schwinn Stingray at a yard sale and promptly replaced the stolen member of the “bike” bike rack. Saturday morning I headed down to the Lab and welded on the little pick stingray. It actually fits in so nicely with the other bikes. good colors.
