Bike Racks are important. As more folks are riding bicycles these days, places to lock up are becoming increasingly more important. There have been several nights I’ve rode over to a bar in Long Beach and had to lock up to a street pole, or somebody’s fence, or some gas or water pipes. I think it’s a terrible eye sore when bikes are locked up to street sign poles. While these structures are good enough to lock up to, I often times feel bad for locking up to something that isn’t designated for bicycles. If cities are rallying up to make their streets more bike friendly then they need to install well designed bike racks.
A well designed bike rack looks good without any bikes locked up to it. It also can support many different sizes and styles of bikes. A well designed bike rack must also support more than one bike at a time without obstructing pedestrian walkways.
Anyways, I noticed a post regarding a bike rack design competition for the city of New York. Good stuff, good ideas… click here.
Other rad bike rack here. hehe.
