So I decided to replace the super hip Russian designed “m’ilkcrates” TV stand with a little construction of my own. Using scrap wood from the bookshelves project, I was able to make a nice little stand with some sliding door action for storage. Have a looksee below.
Simple. Functional. Sturdy. Easy to construct. I can make you one. I think I would like to add some knobs to the sliding doors. I guess the traditional move would be to cut a hole into the wood for use as a finger pull, but I think I want to add a knob instead; kind of mash up the whole straight line/modern minimalist feel. I’m gonna add some whimsy, maybe like this peacock drawer pull below:
what do you think?

hey, nice cabinet!!!
i’m a designer my self, a maker of things as well!!!
i was wondering, regarding the sliding system you used… is it ok with just the guide for the door to slide or you think you need a proper sliding system so that it can work ok??
keep up the good work…

Thanks Joao.
I actually updated that tv stand by putting some legs on it http://etrine.com/2008/09/03/tv-stand-update/ . That stand is long gone though. We moved, and now it’s mounted to the wall in my garage, I use it as shelving.
As for the sliding doors – because the wood doors were small and light, I didn’t need to install any track system. They slid freely in the slot I made with my table saw.
Cheers.
