This is a new series I’m currently developing. It’s been on my mind for months, but now I’m finally caught up with other projects that I can start developing my own. The basic premise for this series is an idea I call “Assisted DIY” – basically, I provide the starting point for a user to finish a project. I provide the durable steel legs, powder coat them, then ship them to a customer. Then it’s the customers responsibility to get a 2″ x 12″ plank and bolt it to the legs.
Benefits – reduced shipping costs, durable powder coated steel, custom colors for the legs, customer has the choice of what kind of wood, stain, and finish to use, customer plays an active part in the ownership of the piece.
I’ve got the prototypes for a picnic table and a standalone table ready to go as well. I’m not sure if the idea will really be marketable – I think people would still rather buy something that is completely assembled – but I hope that it will take on with the DIY crowd…
