Here are some rad little paintings that I found on my external hard drive today. These were taken from the I Am For Lease art show in July of 2006, featuring some sweet works by Danny Simon and a little collaboration expression session mural. See the video from that show HERE.

Painting, Painting
As I mentioned a few days ago, I’ve been painting. I have these surges of making work through a certain process or media, and then just as soon as I’ve started, I switch it up again. Lately, I’ve been flooded with ideas about sculptural projects I’d like to work on, but I’ve been manifesting these [...]

Painting: Processes and Discoveries
Having now sustained a studio practice, outside the context of school, for about 19 months now, I’m beginning to sit comfortably in the ebb and flow of this practice. I liken this practice to a anecdote that Dan Callis once wrote about – having a conversation with another person while surfing. In a similar sense, [...]

New paintings (the beginnings…)
Went absolutely painting crazy last night. Lately, I’ve been waking up every morning with paintings in my brain; not complete paintings necassarily, but starting points. Maybe it’s because I had a relaxing, reviving weekend, where I was able to pause for a minute and ponder the two-dimensional world. Or perhaps it’s because I’ve been doing [...]

Time to cut it up…
Here are the 5′ x 5′ panels that we’ve been using for live art events for the past couple of months… I pulled them off the supports and I think I’m going to cut them into smaller panels for a new project. The below photo is what is left over from the We Love Long [...]

Paintings
Not sure if these are finished, but I think they look nice… simply enjoying making simple things that look nice… Probably influenced by spending more time in the ocean these days…

More new stuff
Working on some new paintings. Bigger versions of the horizons. Fun, Simple. Enjoying the simple act of putting paint on a canvas and not thinking too much about it. Almost has a Mark Rothko feel to it, but not as fuzzy. And not quite as subject oriented as a Wolfgang Bloch piece. I guess if [...]

Old Jams… (paintings)
Cruising through one of my external hard drives/portable music players (ipods), I found a ton of old photos of art work and events. Super rad to look back at all the stuff I’ve made, and super glad to know that it is off somewhere in someone’s place making people happy, I hope. Here’s a sampling [...]

Trying to get the studio space going again…
My studio space, my garage below our apartment, is slowly coming along. I’m looking forward to getting it fully operational and ready for making stuff. Here are a few pics of what I’ve been up to: Also, I’ve been transferring my “Oops paint” collection into mason jars – because it looks pretty. Left over lids [...]

Cosmic Powers
These are three paintings from the Cosmic Powers series I worked on in February. 2 of the pieces are at the Alegria Gallery. The piece in the middle was purchased for a Church Pastor in Mammoth (pretty neato). Have you heard about some of the stories about Jewels falling from Heaven?

preview
Killer preview of a show that I’m in that’s opening tomorrow night. For some reason my pieces are very difficult to photograph. Unfortunately, I can’t make the opening because my sister is graduating from college down in San Diego. Looks like a radical show and I’m honored to be in it. I’m kinda intimidated by [...]

recent pieces of awesome
A recent body of ideas that I’ve translated into paintings: Impossible Architecture. I’ve decided to take advantage of working in 2D and create structures that I can’t make in 3D Here’s 2 examples below. Each panel is 16″ x 20″ Also from a recent series I worked around ideas of Church structures. Megachurch, below. Each [...]
