I’m about 87% complete with my recent building project for our house. I made a coffee table and 2 side tables. This is is a simple design. Welded 1 inch square tubing. Powder Coated white. 3/4 inch birch plywood. 47 inches long. 16 inches tall. 20 inches deep. I love the way it looks, and [...]

New Bed, DIY Style
Well, Heather and I are, slowly but surely, getting settled into our place. Our previous place had an enormous amount of storage space, so we didn’t actually notice how much stuff we had until we lost our space to store all of it. Now, we are cooking up some creative ideas for storing all of [...]

Drift away, Ventura, CA
Made the short trek up the coast to get some driftwood on Sunday. Joined by Danny, Dave and Daniel. Huey, Duey and Louie. So, that leaves, Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck, Launchpad McQuak, or Gizmo Duck? You decide. Anyways, we gathered some goodies and caught a few, walled, waves at county line on our way back [...]

Keep on Building… The new store
Well, I’ve been cranking away lately down in Costa Mesa at the Camp, making tons of stuff for the new store SEED. On the evening and weekends I’ve been delivering the furniture and fixtures that I’ve found and fabricated and the awesome team of Danny Simon, Dave Hill, Jon Wang and Chris Bennett have been [...]

Recent Acquisitions and Assemblages…
Getting the new space at the Camp up and running has been running me weary the past couple of nights, but I’m lovin’ it! Here are some of my recent purchases for the space and some of the pieces I’m building: Long Beach Flea Market purchase. Glider, love seat. The cushions are out for re-upholstery. [...]

The latest happenings beyond the Orange curtain…
I’ve taken up an additional job down in the Sobeca district of Costa Mesa. Though I do projects for them from time to time, we’ve worked out a more consistent schedule with an ever accumulating list of projects. At the top of that list right now is the new Patagonia space at the Camp. We’ve [...]

Sculpture Box Contest
“Working In and Around a Boat” This past Saturday I participated in the Tour Des Artistes Sculpture Box Contest in Downtown Long Beach. Basically, we had to complete a piece inside the 8′ x 8′ x 8′ cube of 2 x 4′s. I decided that simply filling the cube would be too easy and that [...]

The Dome of Power
Cosmic vibrations emitted from the dome of power caused a mild earthquake in Southern California last night. I guess, it’s not a true dome, it’s more of a truncated pyramid. But hey, it’s my first geodesic dome modification sculpture! Different colors reveal different magical wonders… Come and witness the dome in it’s final form at [...]

Counter, Stainless Steel, Powder Coating, Lime
Here’s a portion of counter that I worked on for a new project in Costa Mesa. I welded up the base of the counter, got it powder coated white and put it on red casters. I’ve still got to put some doors on the cabinet portion, but you get the idea. And I need to [...]

Let’s get Geodesic!
Working on some models of modified geodesic domes for an upcoming project. This is a simplified version – planar pentagons. I can’t wait to build one of these full size!

Coffee Table Project Update
Measure twice, cut once. Or, measure once, cut once. This is what happens when I weld up a frame without measuring the wood slab first – “I think it’s about 20 inches wide” – wrong. Well, at least I have a base to work on another coffee table project…

Urban Shooting Range (RECAP)
I de-installed the urban shooting range this morning. I felt like I was walking throught a set of Nickelodeon’s Double Dare just after someone got slimed! Totally covered in orange paintball paint! Totally. Check out the paintball weapon that caused this destruction HERE.

New Project – Urban Shooting Range
I was hired by the Kingman Group, a huge paintball company, to produce a backdrop/shooting gallery for their upcoming tradeshow in Huntington Beach this weekend. They wanted a run down strip mall kind of look and this is what I came up with: Kingman is unveiling their new paintball handguns [Here], and this is what [...]

Project Update (Work Desk)
I’ve been building this work desk for Light + Space Studio for a couple of weeks now. Unlike other commissions I’ve had a rather open ended deadline with this piece which has given room for more interesting developments and experimentation. The basic structure of the work desk is angle iron, and the shelves will be [...]

The Surf Rack (update)
I forgot to mention last time, but we had to cut off to arms of the surf rack to get it through the door at Shelter. Note to self: measure doorway before welding large metal sculpture. Or: make projects that can be disassembled, re-assembled. Anyways, I went down to Shelter on Friday night to weld [...]

E-Waste Xmas Tree (Finished)
Completed and Installed the E-Waste Xmas Tree at the Lab this weekend. I’m happy I made the design revision. Here’s my thought process behind this piece – HERE. Dig.

Revision (xmas tree project)
I made a major revision in Xmas Tree Project. Basically, I didn’t like how hodge-podgy and junkyard-like the E-Waste Xmas tree was turning out. I originally wanted to use primarily salvaged materials and weld them together, patchwork style, in hopes to bring them to a beautiful resonance. I realized that the frame I constructed to [...]

The Lazy Susan Surfboard Rack

X-Mas Tree Project
Did I mention the Xmas Tree project I’m working on for the Lab? Anyways, I usually make a Xmas tree for them every year consisting of some kind of salvaged or recycled materials. This year they commisioned me to build a tree using electronic waste. So I’ve been scouring dumpsters looking for electronic waste that [...]
